A strong demand for food products


  Food accounts for 47 % of households expenses.
  Algeria is the 3rd-ranking importer in the world for milk and milk products.
     The higher consumption of milk in the Maghreb

   High consumption of biscuits (2 to 3 kg per inhabitant a year) and of soft drinks (47 l. per inhabitant a year).

 

 

 

Algeria is a major importer of staple products

  Algeria is the main food importer in Africa.
  Algeria is among to the 10 leading importers in the world of cereals, milk powder, oils, sugar and coffee.
  In the past Algeria was an exporter of agricultural products.
      Nowadays Algeria is mainly an importer.
      The important incomes from hydrocarbons still permit massive food imports.

  Algeria counts among the 10 top-importers of cereals, of milk powder, of oils, sugar and coffee in the world.
  The agrofood sector represents ar. 25 % of algerian total imports.

 

 

 

The “Beverages” sector is in great evolution – mostly for the soft drinks


  Algeria is the first exporter of beverages in the Maghreb
  The soft drinks industry generates the higher turnover (32 %) in terms of “market share” when in terms of “volumes” it is equal to the bottled water ones followed by the beer, the fruit juice and the wine. Market for soft drinks offers  promising outlets of growth (over 30 %).
  Strong consumption of juices (85 %) and emergence of fruit/milk mixes.
  Remarkable increase of the production of water bottles that has doubled within 4 years.
