The Djaz'Pack exhibition, launched in 2024 and renewed at Djazagro 2025, highlighted the importance of packaging and the opportunities for innovation in this sector for players in the agri-food industry.

These advances are particularly significant for the coffee industry, as highlighted in this article published in March on the Sustainable Packaging News website. ‘With coffee prices reaching record highs, choosing the right packaging is more important than ever,’ reads the online magazine's headline.

The choice of recycling

Between production deficits, rising labour costs and supply chain disruptions, the cost of raw materials has risen sharply in recent years, with coffee now trading at three times its 2015 price.

Faced with this challenge, producers must find ways to offset this increase, particularly by addressing the challenge of packaging, which must become more recyclable while maintaining food quality guarantees and meeting the requirements for protection against moisture, light and air.

For Sustainable Packaging News, the first step is to move away from packaging that is difficult to recycle, such as multi-material packaging (plastic bags lined with aluminium foil) still often used by roasters. The online magazine highlights alternative solutions: ‘Containers made from a single material, whether metal or plastic, can be easily recycled after use. Black, bisphenol A-free, food-grade containers are a practical and reusable option, ideal for storing ground coffee and coffee beans,’ concludes Sustainable Packaging News.

These changes are all the more urgent given that, despite the rise in raw material prices, global coffee consumption is set to increase by 16% between 2014 and 2024!

The next edition of Djazagro will be held from 12 to 15 2026 in Algiers. This event will be an opportunity to discover the latest advances in packaging and to take stock of trends in the coffee market.
