On 7 April, the Djazagro trade show welcomed an unusual guest from the Algerian agri-food world to host a cheese tasting workshop.
A veterinary practitioner in the private sector, Feriel Adidou created the online cheese shop Fadidou in 2021 before winning the Best Cheesemaker in Algeria competition organised by the French Institute in partnership with the French Cheese Federation in 2023. The founder of Fadidou has since become the first Algerian woman to join the International Cheese Guild!
‘You have to take the plunge’
During the workshop, Feriel Adidou introduced some of the products from her cheese dairy, which specialises in making artisanal cheeses without additives or preservatives, as well as some renowned Algerian local products such as tomme aux fleurs and Djben el Kafs, a traditional cheese from the Bou Saâda region, shaped into a ball and wrapped in various herbs (thyme, rosemary, etc.).
Noting the positive development of a trade show that ‘continues to grow in size and influence,’ Feriel Adidou also took advantage of her visit to Djazagro to spread a message of encouragement to those who, like her, would like to embark on an entrepreneurial adventure in the Algerian agri-food market: ‘Don't wait for the perfect moment, just go for it and get some training. The groundwork is there, you can always start.’
It's up to you to take the first step...
See you at Djazagro 2026 to discover more talented individuals and initiatives that are driving the Algerian agri-food sector forward.
